Dozens of female protesters danced and chanted on the streets of Istanbul in Turkey on Sunday (February 13) to voice their anger at the rising cost of energy.

Footage captured in the Kadikoy district of the city showed the women also banging pots and pans before a line of riot police forced them backwards.

Inflation leapt to near 50% in January, raising the cost of living for Turks already struggling to make ends meet after a currency crash in December caused by President Tayyip Erdogan's low interest rates policy.

Protest actions continue due to the hikes in energy bills in Turkey. The women, who wanted the price hikes to be canceled, protested the hikes with a dance show they prepared with pots and pans in Istanbul's Kadıköy district. The police intervened against the women who wanted to disperse after the protest. The action was organized at the call of the Kadin Meclisleri (Women's Councils). Women were battered with police shields.
