Police raided the house of a couple suspected of human trafficking slave labour from Thailand to Cambodia.

Officers arrested Nattakorn, 28, and his partner Oijai, 34, in the house in Sa Kaeo province on February 3. The two are accused of operating a trafficking network to lure victims to work for call centers in neighbouring Cambodia. Using their website as a facade, they reportedly promised victims 'easy and well-paid jobs' as bait.

People who signed up are then said to have been taken to the Thai-Cambodia border, where they were met by a Cambodian accomplice and taken to the gang's base.

The couple allegedly admitted to their crimes upon being caught, and said another man, Por Nuad-ngaam, part of the operations on the Cambodian side. Authorities said they found additional evidence such as bankbooks, border passes, and a notebook detailing income and expenses.

Police General Damrongsak Kittiprapat, Deputy Commissioner General and director of the Police Cyber Taskforce, said the couple also led them to the site where they smuggled people - in a rice field behind the Sdok Kok Thom heritage palace.

Police Major General Theeradech said: 'A victim who managed to escape told us that they were forced to scam Thai people into transferring money to the gang. We were told they work 15 hours a day, every day.

'If they refused to work, they would be tortured or locked up. Some were sold off to other gangs somewhere else, while some would become willing accomplices since they got a commission out of it.'

Damrongsak said the call center gangs are becoming more rampant in Thailand. He urged the public to vigilant against such scams, and to contact the police immediately in case they encounter such suspicious activities.
