The importance of target training for this endangered iguana species
Joey Brown, a reptile keeper at San Diego Zoo in California, demonstrated on 14 January how he does 'target training' with one of the endangered iguanas at the zoo.
Target training is common with zoo animals. With it they are mentally and physically stimulated, as well as learning behaviour they would otherwise learn in the wild, like foraging.
It also helps them learn how to cooperate with their keepers, which helps when they need to undergo veterinary care or be transported.
