Hungry wild elephant raids military base in Malaysia in search of food
This is the scary moment a hungry wild elephant raided a military base in Malaysia in search of food.
The jumbo was seen poking its head through the window of a warehouse in the Sri Banding Camp in Perak State's Gerik town on Monday afternoon, February 14.
It was rifling through pieces of wood and appeared to be putting objects into its mouth when a man inside the warehouse tried to drive it away by hurling random items at it. The elephant then circled around and tried to open the door of the building using its trunk.
Officials believe the elephant had broken into the area through the camp's damaged electric fence in search of food. It reportedly also damaged some property of the Malaysian Armed Forces.
Yusoff Shariff, director of Malaysia's Department of Wildlife and National Parks, said: 'We have received a report regarding this incident, and we will follow up.
'This is a recurring incident. We advise the camp not to provoke any wildlife involved.'
The department chief added that the Gerik Wildlife Sanctuary manager will be assisting with repairs to the camp's fence.
A similar incident happened in the town in 2018, where an elephant tragically died after being electrocuted in an electric fence in the same camp.
