Major clashes erupted in parts of Kashmir on Tuesday 15 February after Indian troops on patrol forced their way into a home and burnt a picture of Iranian military commander Qasem Soleimani they found there.

That triggered large protests in which Indian troops and Kashmir's police fired teargas and pellet guns at protesters, who threw stones.

Qasem Soleimani was an Iranian military commander killed by a US drone strike near Baghdad International Airport on 3 January 2020.
