Patients at Caritas Medical Centre in Hong Kong were forced to stay outside overnight after the hospital's facilities ran beyond their capacity due to a spike in COVID-19 cases.

Footage from February 15 shows dozens of tents set up outside the hospital as well as a handful of patients lying in their beds out in the open.

Temperatures were predicted to reach lows of 13 degrees Celsius in the morning.

Hong Kong recorded 2,071 new COVID-19 infections on February 14.

This footage filmed in the Caritas Medical Centre of Sham Shui Po, a hospital located in one of the poorest areas of Hong Kong shows patients obliged to overnight outside in the courtyard and a parking of the hospital. As the COVID outbreak, mainly fueled by the extremely contagious omicron variant is generating thousands of new infections every day, the Hong Kong hospital system is buckling under the weight.
