A popular TikToker has gone viral for her everyday hacks that help make life easier – including heating up chicken with a hot water bottle and creating DIY lemon spray.

Tanya Mukendi, 30, an NHS worker and influencer from London, shares her cleaning and lifestyle hacks on TikTok (@tanyahomeinspo), where she has over 630,000 followers.

A natural problem-solver, she uses critical thinking to make everyday scenarios easier and save on time – and social media users can't get enough of the tricks.

The influencer always does her best to make her hacks accessible to people from all backgrounds, as it's important to her that anyone be able to do it – without having to spend loads of money.

“If I see a trick that works well, I wonder how I can use it in a method that is accessible to all people,” Tanya told Jam Press.

“The cleaning hacks often come from my own imagination.

"If there’s a stain, I will not rest until I find a way to get it out.

“A lot of my inspiration and lessons derive from my upbringing in an African household.

“Cleanliness was instilled into our core values from a young age and I was raised in a tidy house."

The hacks aren't just for social media – for Tanya, it's also a coping mechanism.

Sadly, her father passed away in April 2021 and after his death, she tried to find various outlets to cope with the anxiety and grief, such as meditation and regular walks – but found the most peace in cleaning.

Wanting to share her knowledge with others online, she soon saw her account blow up.

She said: “A few weeks [after he passed] I exploded on TikTok for my hacks.

“One of the first hacks I came up with was frozen dish soap to clean oven racks.

“Some of my favourites include making scented rice bags, as they are perfect for underwear drawers, wardrobes or gifts.

“During the Christmas season, I was eager to find a way to save some space whilst keeping my food warm.

“I usually keep most of my meats and potatoes in the oven, but there’s a limited amount of room.

“I came up with the idea of using a hot water bottle as a food warmer, which worked great.

“My favourite hack is undoing the cap of a spray bottle and pushing this into a lemon to create your own lemon cleaner.

“I used to squeeze lemon directly onto surfaces - but I wanted to find an easier alternative.

“It’s a powerful cleaning agent and I use this for most of my day-to-day cleaning."

Demonstrating how to keep plates of food warm, she shared a video of herself lining in hot water bottles filled with boiling water, before placing the plates on top to keep them warm.

This was particularly helpful over Christmas while juggling several dishes at once.

The popular post garnered more than 3,500 likes, which fans branded “genius”.

In another recent clip, which has racked up over 15,000 likes and 487,000 views, Tanya demonstrates how to use the lemon hack.

She starts by taking the fruit and uses a knife to cut out a hole in the top.

After redoing an old spray bottle cap into the top of the lemon, she then spritzes the juices all over her appliances.

She shows off the final result by wiping off the excess liquid, revealing a shiny air fryer.

“Shut the F up. I need to try this!” commented one viewer. [sic]

Another viewer commented: “HUHHHHHHHHHHH! I’m doing this RIGHT NOW.”

“Now I need to try this on my hob,” someone else said, followed by a shocked face emoji.

Another person added: “I need to try this.”

“I am going to buy lemons tomorrow just for this,” someone else commented.

Tanya decided to share her hobby on TikTok, as she wanted to help people save time whilst cleaning.

She said: “I am passionate about helping my followers with easy home hacks, so that they can free up time to do other things they love.

"In only 10 months, my social media accounts have collectively gained over one million followers.

“I’ve even had two of my favourite rappers try out my hacks on television.

“This became my outlet for grief and it’s now a cathartic factor of my daily routine.”
