Artist transforms old books by using them as a canvas for oil pastels
An artist in the Philippines transforms old books into oil pastel artworks.
Video taken in Catleya Joy Garadon's home in Quezon City on January 29 shows her shading over the browned pages of the old books to recreate classical paintings such as Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa and Alexandre Cabanel's Fallen Angel.
Since she lacked the budget to buy painting materials and brown paper, Catleya said she resorted to using the books as canvases instead.
She said: 'I focused on art during the pandemic while we were all locked down at home. I decided to use my old books and make them useful, but I did not expect so many people would like it.'
Aside from oil pastels, Catleya also uses charcoal and coloured pencils as other mediums for her art.
