Food delivery app riders protest against low pay in Thailand.

More than 100 riders gathered by the Khaen Nakhon lake in Khon Kaen province to slam an online food delivery company for its new pay rates on February 14.

The riders decried the lower fee adjustment of 28 baht per ride - which was significantly lower than their 45 baht per ride commission before the new rates were implemented.

The new rates were reportedly due to the 3 per cent service tax deductions, but the riders said the fees would barely cover their operating costs including fuel budget.

One of the riders Dome said: 'We arranged the gathering using a chat application. There are more of us that work for the company but most of those who came were affected by the new pay rates.'

'Fuel price is rising daily while our wages go the opposite direction. We only asked for a fair price of 32 baht per trip. After this demonstration, we are going to Khonkaen Damrongtham centre to seek legal help for further cooperation for solutions that are needed.'

The group is demanding to higher the new rates up to 32 baht per trip. The food delivery company has yet to release a statement about the incident.
