Storm Eunice batters war time relics as well as modern wind turbines in Thames Estuary off Kent, UK
Storm Eunice battered war time relics as well as more modern structures today as it roared through the Thames Estuary off Sheerness, Kent, UK today (February 18).
Footage shows the masts from WW2 shipwreck SS Richard Montgomery - which sank with 1400 tonnes of explosives onboard in 1944 - enduring the extreme wind & waves.
The exceptional winds created huge amounts of sea spray - which even became rainbow-coloured at points. Other air-born debris such as high flying plastic bags also features.
The Maunsell sea forts, another wartime relic also had to ride out the storm. Two of sets of these old defensive forts are shown: Red Sands towers and Shivering Sands towers with both surrounded by raging seas and poor visibility caused by a combination of rain and sea-spray.
The modern Kentish Flats Windfarm also struggled with the high winds. Engineers had locked off turbines to prevent damage and the risk of the blades catching fire, but some were still seen to turn ever so slightly.
