A helicopter was used to rescue a 19-year-old boy who fell down a 300-foot steep cliff in Nandi Hills, Karnataka.

Footage from February 20 shows one of the rescue team being lowered down to the injured student before attaching him to a harness so they could be lifted to safety.

The 19-year-old named Nishank had fallen down the cliff after slipping.

After receiving first aid on board of the helicopter, Nishank was rushed to hospital.

A 19-year-old student who fell 300 feet from a steep cliff onto a rocky ledge and got stuck, was rescued by a joint team of Indian Air Force and Chikkaballapur Police in southern India's Karnataka.

The incident took place at the Nandi Hills on February 20.

Visuals showed an army helicopter winching the student. Before that, a rescuer ties the harness around the student for the others to pull him up.

The student has been identified as Nishank. He got stuck in Bramhagiri Rocks in Nandi Hills after slipping and falling 300 feet below and was eventually rescued using a Mi17 helicopter.

"A Mi17 helicopter was promptly launched and after an intense search and with the ground guidance of local police was able to locate the stranded and immobile victim. The terrain being treacherous for a landing, the Flight Gunner of the Mi17 was daringly lowered by winch next to the survivor. The flight gunner helped the survivor to harness and winched up safely," PRO Defence said.

After receiving first aid on board, the survivor was rushed to a civil hospital.
