A reckless mother was fined after riding a motorcycle with her three-year-old daughter standing on the passenger's seat.

The woman had to pay 400 Baht (9 GBP) for allowing her three-year-old daughter to stand in the pillion passenger position while they rode towards Hat Yai in Songkhla province, Thailand on February 13.

Video shows the girl not wearing a helmet as she stands dangerously on the motorcycle with one hand on her mum's shoulder. Her mother was seen also not wearing protective headgear and seemingly unbothered by her daughter's precarious position.

The pair travelled over a bumper road while mixing with other traffic as the girl, in pink polka dot shorts, simply leaned against her mother's back and let her hands dangle free.

An outraged onlooker who captured the incident said: 'What on earth was she thinking, having her child standing on the bike like that on a highway? I want this kind of dangerous behaviour publicised so other people take more care.'

Hat Yai police have ordered the woman to the station for questioning. She allegedly claimed that she was using a different bike than the motorcycle they usually ride, adding that her daughter refused to sit properly on the new two-wheeler. She then allowed her to stand.

Police did not accept the excuse and fined the mother, who has not been named, for riding without a helmet and for driving with no consideration for other road users.
