A boyfriend staged a fake DRUG BUST with the help of police to propose to his girlfriend.

Alter Ortiz was riding a motorbike with girlfriend Esther Idul when five armed cops stopped them at a checkpoint as planned in Iligan City, the Philippines on February 13.

In the bizarre proposal, the officers pinned Alter to the ground while holding their automatic rifles. They then claimed to have found drugs - which carries a possible life sentence - and were about to take him in custody while his frantic girlfriend was 'interrogated' on the roadside.

However, after the fake questioning, the trembling woman was led to the back of the checkpoint where a car was waiting.

It was decorated with flowers, a 'Will you marry me?' sign and was playing music as Alter produced an engagement ring and popped the question on one knee - prompting a heartwarming emotional reaction from Esther who broke down in tears.

Videographer John Mark Idul, who was also the bride's cousin and in on the stunt, said: 'It was Alter and his friends' idea. We have been working in the wedding industry but this was the most challenging.

'We had to disguise ourselves as cops so our cousin wouldn't see us. She was also very emotional that time so she didn't recognize us.'

John added that the groom asked permission from the police station three weeks before they agreed to take part in the proposal, which they said was part of improving relations with the public.

He said: 'The groom asked permission around three weeks before the event and it was granted. We started polishing the plan from then on.'

In the end, the woman said yes to the bizarre marriage proposal and they are set to get married next year.
