A lucky grandmother survived after stepping on an 8ft-long king cobra in her family's home in Thailand.

Nai Aisah, 50, was on her way to the bathroom in her house in Songkhla province on February 9 when she encountered the venomous reptile.

She was walking through a dark corner of the room, but felt something unusual under her feet. She turned around and saw the massive king cobra that she had stepped on.

Terrified, the grandmother managed to back away from the snake without drawing its attention. She then informed her 90-year-old father about the intruder in their home, and they called the local reptile hunters to remove the cobra.

Nai Aisah said: 'It was good luck that the snake didn't bite me, because I could have died. I'm nervous about being in my home now.'

The rescue team arrived with their snake-catching equipment and found the serpent hiding in a narrow gap behind the family's closet. They caught the cobra without incident, and placed it inside a sack, after which it was released into a forest, far away from people's homes.
