Ukrainians woke up on Saturday morning (February 26) to destroyed buildings and fragments of bombs on the roads in Kyiv after a frenetic night of air raids and gunfire.

The footage shows the extent of the devastation with many apartment windows and cars totally smashed. A few residents are seen walking down relatively empty streets.

More than 50 explosions and heavy machine gun fire were heard overnight in the capital as Kyiv residents took shelter in the city’s subway stations.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces said there were “heavy battles ongoing” in one part of the city on Saturday morning, while “active combat” was taking place in some streets.
