Human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell attended a rally in support of Ukraine outside Downing Street in London on Saturday (February 26).

In an interview at the demonstration, Tatchell said that the West's "inaction" on previous Russian interventions including Georgia, Crimea and Syria "gave Putin the green light to begin this invasion of Ukraine today".

He called for "much tougher sanctions" on Russia including the freezing of assets & travel bans for all Russian political, military, security and intelligence officials.

Tatchell added he wants Ukraine to be armed with "more anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles" to defend itself.

He added he hopes "the Russian military intervention will fail, and that as a result there will be a military coup to overthrow Putin, and Russia will get back on the path for democracy and human rights".
