Tourists have been flocking to see a historic WW2 shipwreck off the Kent coast, before the three masts that are visible above the waterline are cut off this summer.

Shipwreck SS Richard Montgomery sank in the Thames Estuary in August 1944 with a large quantity of explosives still onboard.

The doomed American liberty ship is located 1.5 miles off the town of Sheerness.

Footage from this afternoon (February 26) shows two tour boats running trips around the masts for visitors at low tide.

Tour boats X-Pilot and Jetstream's 'Jacob Marley' could both be seen circling the special 'no-entry' exclusion zone around the wreck.

The masts are being removed to reduce strain on the ageing vessel, which has been submerged in salt water for 78 years.
