Villages were submerged in floodwater due to a 'shear line' weather phenomenon in the Philippines.

Video shot on 23 February showed a wide area covered in knee-deep muddy water.

Houses, shops, and schools were devastated by the deluge after the sudden change in the wind patterns in Tacloban province.

Some residents were asked to evacuate including those who are in low-lying areas but most chose to stay and guard their belongings.

No one was reported hurt while local officials provided relief aid to affected villagers.

A ‘shear line’ is caused by a sudden change in the horizontal wind, causing weather disturbance in a narrow corridor.
