EFF supports retrenched hospital workers
EFF (Economic Freedom Fighters) members joined Groote Schuur Hospital workers in solidarity against pending retrenchments. They are demanding a meeting with the hospital’s management and new staff recruitment service provider.
A staff service provider will be appointed as of 1 March. As a result about 200 hospital workers face job losses because the new service provider will appoint their own staff.
The EFF is demanding the current workers be employed by the new service provider. The protesters blocked the entrance to the hospital and only allowed ambulances to enter and leave. Police arrived at the scene and attempted to mediate between the management and protesters.
