Huge queues form in Kyiv for groceries on Tuesday as massive Russian artillery convoy nears
Long queues for groceries formed in Kyiv this morning (March 1) as residents stocked up ahead of the arrival in the capital of a huge Russian convoy of military vehicles and artillery.
Despite fears of a massive Russian assault on Kyiv, locals stood patiently in line to queue for bread, milk and other essentials.
"I haven't been shopping for three days," says Irina Evgenievna.
"I had reserves - pancakes," she adds with a chuckle.
Asked if she's planning to leave the capital as the Russian military advances, Evegenievna says she's planning to stay put.
"They haven't bombed us yet," she says hopefully.
Further down the same queue for groceries, Stanislav, who didn't give his last name, says he refuses to take shelter from the Russian army.
"I'll stay at home. I live in a 16-storey building and I have not hidden and I will not hide," he says.
A former soldier, Stanislav says that he hasn't signed up due to ill health but says he won't hesitate to fight the Russian invaders if the moment arrives.
Inside the shop, some shelves were bare as bakers struggled to keep up with the demand.
A Russian military convoy stretching back 65km (40 miles) has amassed on the outskirts of Kyiv amid fears that invading forces are set to launch a devastating assault.
