Hundreds of residents have been left without power as parts of Brisbane, Australia, are submerged by a flood that has killed at least eight.

Aerial footage from March 1 shows a suburb in East Brisbane submerged by floodwater after the Brisbane River burst its banks.

The filmer told Newsflare: "Roads in and out my suburb were completely blocked with hundreds of people water trapped. This is a 1 in a 100 year event that has happened twice in 10 years.

"I took this footage from my driveway when the waters had receded enough for me to come out of my house. We were water trapped for a day or two but had plenty of supplies."

Hundreds have been left without power and access to their houses as the Brisbane river has broken its banks. This video is of the East Brisbane catchment area showing the High school and surrounding roads completely submerged. At the end of the video a local resident is kayaking to access his house.
