Journalists working in Ukraine were today (March 2) able to witness for the first time the aftermath of the deadly Russian strike on Kyiv TV Tower where they found pools of blood in the street alongside mangled metal from the structure.

At least five people were killed when Russian forces fired at the tower and the city’s main Holocaust memorial, according to Ukrainian officials.

Kyiv resident Elizaveta Kozlenko was driving with her husband past the tower when the strike happened.

"We were taking clothes to the territorial defence forces when it suddenly happened," she says from the scene today as she recovered their damaged car.

"There was no siren. We ran out of the car and lay here. My husband was wounded by the shrapnel from a rocket. Other pieces exploded near me," she adds, clearly still shaken by the experience.

"Miraculously he survived. He's now in the hospital," she says before driving off with a large shrapnel hole in the door of her white SUV.

Another building was also damaged in the attack and stands across the street with broken windows and a charred facade.
