A woman has faced backlash online after going to Turkey to receive crowns – with a qualified dental therapist saying she has made a terrible decision.

Bae, 24, an aesthetic practitioner (@facesbybae), has received mixed reactions online after she flew to Turkey and underwent surgery to get dental mono crowns – a type of cap which restores the tooth.

One criticism has come from a viral video by dental therapist Laura Bailey, who said she "murdered her teeth".

But Bae says she isn't paying any attention to what others say.

“She has her opinion and I have mine," Bae told Jam Press.

“I made the decision to get my teeth done for myself, not for anyone else.

“I researched and knew this was the right decision for me."

Bae says she followed her chosen dentist and researched them for over two years, before booking in the irreversible surgery.

Flying over 2,000 miles wasn’t an issue for Bae, as she loved her dentist’s work and felt it was the right place for her to have the procedure.

Despite people saying that she already had nice teeth, she believes that she now has amazing teeth and doesn’t regret her decision in the slightest.

In a post uploaded to TikTok, Bae takes her viewers along the journey to get her new teeth.

She begins by showing her naturally straight teeth, before showing the ‘new’ teeth which were to be implanted.

She then films her teeth which are now shaven down and then cuts to a photo of her new pearly whites.

Despite receiving mostly positive comments about her new look, many people took to the comments to express their negativity.

“You had PERFECT teeth. You’ve replaced them with chiclets. Do people not realize they are voluntarily causing their own health problems?” one viewer commented.

Another person added: “If that first teeth picture is the before photo, you’re seriously out of your mind…” followed by two shocked face emojis.

“This is honestly soo sad,” someone else said.

In response, Laura Bailey uploaded her own video about Bae’s new look.

In a clip, titled: ‘SHE DIDN’T NEED CROWNS’ which has 10 million views and over 856,000 likes, she expresses her disgust.

She replays Bae’s video, before saying: “Don’t mind me while I just cry into my cup of coffee, because that girl has had her teeth completely murdered.

“He’s destroyed all of her enamel and now she will have to replace them every 15 years - if they last that long.

“And they’ll have to drill more teeth down, because that’s what you have to do when you replace crowns and she’ll end up with root canals on all her teeth and they will become brittle.

“Then she’ll have more crowns and she’ll probably have to have it in the UK and it will cost her loads of money and she’ll be in lots of pain.

“This needs to stop, I’m trying to make it stop and it’s going to get boring if I keep talking about it - but it’s better than just watching it happen.”

“Omg her natural teeth were totally fine!!! This is so upsetting,” one viewer commented. [sic]

Another person added: “You made me not go get mine done.”

“I had booked to get mine done and because of u I’ve decided to look after my own,” someone else said, to which Laura replied, “Emma this makes me so happy.” [sic]

Despite Laura expressing her concern, Bae added: “I was aware of all the facts of the type of teeth I had chosen and was happy with that option, as you discuss every option possible for you and I chose crowns.

“Of course there will be people that disagree with my treatment, but I didn’t do it for them.

“I strongly believe that whatever makes you happy, you should do - whether it’s getting treatment, getting surgery or being natural.

“Do what makes you happy. I love my new teeth and don’t regret them at all - I’m all about self care.”

Although, Laura says that she was just expressing her concern and only wants the best for people's teeth.

“It’s not the patient’s fault and I just want to make sure there’s enough education for people out there," Laura told Jam Press.

“The reason crowns can be so harmful to patients, is because of the ‘restorative cycle’ which is how many times crowns need to be replaced.

“If a young person is getting this done, they will need to get them replaced four or five times and every time you replace a crown, you have to remove more healthy tooth tissue.

“You’re increasing your chances of getting a root canal and the more you drill to the nerve, the more it will become irritated and can lead to something called ‘pulpitas.’

“This is where the nerve becomes so inflamed and damaged, that it dies.

“Once someone has gone abroad and has had treatment, most UK dentists won’t touch them, so people will have to keep going abroad if they have problems.

“Crowns are not the enemy, they can be amazing for patients who already have tooth wear or severe decay.

“Young, healthy patients could use other options such as minimal prep veneers, composite bonding or even whitening.

“As long as someone is fully educated and aware of the risks, it’s their body and they can do what they would like.”
