Cape Town mayor calls Putin a mad man, says South African government decision at UN shameful and embarrassing
Whilst the iconic City Hall in Cape Town was lit in the colours of the Ukrainian flag, Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill - Lewis told media that Putin is a "madman with his finger on the nuclear button" .
Just hours before the City Hall where Nelson Mandela made his first speech as a free man was lit up, the South African government abstained from the United Nations vote on reprimanding Russia for its attack on the Ukraine. This decision was shameful and embarrassing according to Hill - Lewis.
Geordin Hill - Lewis is a member of the Democratic Alliance, the official opposition in South Africa and The City of Cape Town of which Hill Lewis is the mayor is run by the Democratic Alliance.
There has been numerous anti war protests across South Africa since the war commenced.
