A kind motorcycle rider stopped to save a stray dog drowning in a dirty canal.

Taxi biker Prateep Tianuam was looking for passengers when he heard the pooch crying in Bangkok, Thailand, on February 6.

He pulled over upon seeing the dog under the bridge was fighting to stay afloat before climbing down to reach it. A policeman patrolling the area, Lattanaan Vipurat, also helped but the scared dog resisted and tried to bite them.

Finally, they had to call assistance from the Thungmahamek fire rescue station who successfully pulled the dog up to safety.

Patrol officer Lattanaan Vipurat said: 'I saw the rider trying to reach the dog but it was aggressive and tried to attack us. The dog was afraid of people.

'I knew we had to work fast so we contacted the fire rescue team.'

The firefighters had a pipe attached to a basket which they used to scoop up the stray. The dog was finally saved after half an hour.

The dog was uninjured and given food before being taken to an animal shelter.
