Buffalo calf rescued after spending five days trapped in sewer
A lost buffalo calf was rescued after spending five days trapped in a sewer.
The two-year-old baby buffalo weighing 80kg was returning to a farm with a herd when it slipped down a hole in Prachinburi province, Thailand on February 18.
No one knew it had been missing until it was found 30 metres away from the hole by a driver on February 23 who called the rescuers for help.
As it was too heavy to pull, the local rescue team had asked for a tractor to pull it out before it was finally freed from the sewer.
Driver Bangorn Tookam, 40, said: 'I pulled over on the street to buy some banana fritters and noticed something moving under the drain.
'I could not believe my eyes that it was a buffalo. I immediately called for help because it looked like it was drowning.'
The buffalo fought to stay afloat down the drain until it drifted away and found. After around two hours, the buffalo was rescued and given food and water to help regain its strength.
Rescuers are now contacting farmers around the area to return the buffalo - whom locals called Boonrawd - while villagers took care of the 'lucky animal.'
Bangorn said: 'The buffalo was a lucky animal for surviving that long underground. I believe it will be lucky to join the lottery using my plate number because of Boonrawd.'
