'Everything was blown up': Residents of town near Kyiv wander through rubble after deadly aerial bombardment
A video journalist working exclusively for Newsflare captured the destruction today (March 3) of a town on the outskirts of the Ukrainian capital after an alleged aerial bombardment by Russia a day earlier.
The footage captured in Irpin showed widespread damage to buildings in a residential area.
"I was woken by the first explosion," says local resident Juliet, who lost her home in the attack.
"Then there were two more blasts," she adds, standing in front of piles of rubble.
"I don't have a home to live in anymore," she says, gesturing to the first-floor apartment of a bombed-out block behind her.
Another resident, Petya, says he heard the first explosion from his basement at 7 am local time.
"Everything here was blown up. Terrible," he says.
Petya, says he and others heard the "unusual strong hum" of aircraft before the explosions.
According to locals, the town has no military presence or infrastructure.
Officials from a nearby military hospital where the victims were taken said the attack killed at least one person and wounded others.
Homeless residents are yet to receive help from the authorities, according to officials.
