Tom Cruise superfans had their breath taken away today (March 3) when their Top Gun hero didn’t just smile for the camera but stepped out of his car to give the dedicated fans a photo op they will cherish forever.

In South Africa filming for Mission Impossible 8, Tom was delighted with the efforts the fans had gone to to get his attention: “You’ve made my day!,” he enthused, adding, “You absolutely made my week! Thank you so much.”

Superfans, Scoobs Roodt, from Australia and Karen Bongrain from France, caught Tom’s eye wearing their ingenious cardboard fighter jet cut-outs and holding up signs bearing quotes from the Tom Cruise classic, Top Gun. “It looks amazing,” said Tom.

“I absolutely love Top Gun, it’s my favourite movie,” enthused Scoobs, to which Tom replied, “So glad, what a pleasure! Can’t wait for you all to see the new one!”

Scoobs and Karen along with friends Siobhan, from Ireland, and Sherie, from the UK, had put in over 7 hours over 3 days waiting to get a glimpse of the Hollywood superstar.

This morning, they were the only fans waiting just after sunrise to greet their idol.

Tom’s bodyguards even acknowledged the occasion saying “Wow, Tom never gets out of his car to greet fans in the mornings, only the afternoons!”

As filming for MI8 continues, Tom Cruise very generously walks to greet and engage with the crowds that gather at the end of each day’s filming in the quaint bush town of Hoedspruit, Limpopo.
