The ship has been stuck off the island's coast since February 20 after hitting a reef.

A passenger ship serving a pioneering voyage in the province of West Papua ran aground when it hit a reef in shallow water in Rutum village, Ayau Islands District, Raja Ampat Regency, West Papua.

The ship is managed by the State-Owned Enterprise, PT. The Indonesian cruise, named the Sabuk Nusantara 96 ​​Motor Ship with a weight of 1,200 GT, struck coral in shallow waters around Rutum village since last Sunday (20/2/2022).

The ship, which serves inter-island passengers, previously sailed from the port of Waisai, the capital of Raja Ampat Regency, with routes to a number of villages in the region. But unfortunately, the passenger ship hit a reef in shallow water.

The location of the ship crashing into the reef is in a conservation area where the Raja Ampat Regency is famous for its world-famous marine tourism location with the best coral reefs that are home to thousands of fish species.

It is estimated that hundreds of square meters of the world's best coral reefs were destroyed by the shipwreck.

The Government Authority and the local Shipping Authority have tried to pull the ship out of the shipwreck location. But until now the ship has not been able to get out into deep waters.

The local people who depend on them as fishermen are very disappointed with this incident, because as a result of this incident, the best coral reefs as fish houses were destroyed. And this will make it difficult for local residents to find fish.

The Indonesian government, in this case, a shipping company owned by the Indonesian government as a local shipping transportation operator, was asked to immediately take responsibility for this incident.
