Gunman Taken Into Custody After Argument Over Money Leads to Shooting
From Hemet Police Department Press Release:
Today, at about 4:30pm, Hemet Police Department officers and Hemet Fire Department Paramedics responded to a disturbance call in the 300 block of W Kimball Avenue in the city of Hemet. Callers to 911 heard gunshots and saw someone running out of one of the apartments in the area with a gun in his hand.
Upon arrival, Hemet Police officers located a 42-year-old male suffering from gunshot wounds and paramedics began treating him. As the officers were tending to the gunshot victim, the suspected shooter, who was still in the same general area, was seen by the officers. The victim confirm it was the same person who had shot him and officers radioed for assistance. Within seconds, the shooting suspect, a 39-year-old male was taken into custody by responding Hemet PD officers. The shooting suspect also had injuries to his face and head from the earlier disturbance.
The investigation, while still early, found that the two men live together in the apartment and were arguing earlier in the afternoon over money. At some point, one of the men hit the other in the face/head and began running. The other man chased after the man and then shot him several times.
Both men were taken to area hospitals for treatment. The shooting victim is expected to survive and is cooperating with investigators. The name of the shooting victim is not being released at this time.
Arrested:
Donte Cooper, 39 years from Hemet.
