Red Devils parachute stunt goes horribly wrong
Corporal Mike French was rescued by his colleague in mid air after his canopy collapsed. Mike French and Wayne Shorthouse struggled to untangle themselves when a stunt for the Red Devils display team went horribly wrong in front of thousands of people at an air display in Whitehaven, Cumbria.
The drama started at 1800 feet when a complicated manouver went horribly wrong. Too low to cut away and deploy an emergency shute, Mike French clung onto his colleague and they both crash landed in Whitehaven Marina.
Both men were unhurt and shared a beer together after their lucky escape.
Corporal Mike French, from. Cumbria, has over 1500 jumps and is the Teams tandem coordinator
Corporal Wayne Shorthouse, from Plymouth, has 1350+ jumps and is the point of contact for all display enquiries.
