Eight civilians including 2 children killed in Irpin, near Kyiv, says mayor

Eight civilians were killed during an evacuation from Irpin, near Kyiv, on Sunday (March 6), according to the town's mayor.

Video shows locals, some carrying young children, walking over the remains of a destroyed bridge to cross a river and leave Irpin, An upturned vehicle can be seen as well as some of the victims of shelling by Russian forces.

One local, a middle-aged man wearing a cap, says on camera: "All the people are leaving Irpin, as am I. Did you see the Russians? I haven't seen them."

Mayor of Irpin Alexander Markushin is reported to have said in a video message posted on Sunday night: “The Russian occupiers fired on our civilians. A family was killed, a shell hit it, and two small children and two adults were killed in front of my eyes. In total, about eight people were killed during today’s shelling.”

A house hit by a shell is also seen in flames.

A yellow bus seen at the end of the video transports those evacuating to another bus stop short before boarding another bus going to the capital.
