This is the hard-to-watch scene as displaced elders in Irpin, Ukraine on Tuesday (March 8) flee from Russian military advances amid a Kremlin invasion that has caused more than 2 million refugees to disperse globally.

Elderly people fled from Chernihiv, Kyiv, and Bucha to get to Irpin, an area hit hard by the invasion as well.

Vladimir, an elderly man seen in the video, said, "[The Russians] scare us. They say that if you leave voluntarily, they will shoot you on the bridge, and it is completely mined there. And we gathered at our own peril and risk and went in a crowd."

Volunteers are seen providing the needy with hot food and blankets.

Vladimir added about his encounters with the Russian army: "Armoured vehicles are standing in almost every yard where we passed.

"They laid out snipers in our apartments, laid out machine gunners. So that if they attack, they have points. Well, the highest ones.

"They break into all the apartments, do a search. They no longer have anything to walk in, they take human shoes, sneakers, change their underpants."

Iprin lies just over 26 kilometres west of Kyiv has been left without water supply, electricity and heating after succumbing to rounds of Russian shelling.
