Concerned residents are angry at proposals for a cement works to be set up close to a conservation area within Sheerness docks, Kent, UK.

Hercules Enterprises has applied to Kent County Council for permission to build a new plant handling up to 500,000 tonnes of cement a year.

Kent County Council stated in a public notice that the proposal "may affect the character and or appearance of the Sheerness Royal Naval Dockyard and Blue Town Conservation Area" and also a listed building.

Footage shows the area inside the docks currently occupied by new cars where the proposed plant may be built, along with footage of the nearby Blue Town conservation area.

Blue Town is a former naval area opposite the imposing Sheerness Royal Navy Dockyard wall - an area Nelson regularly frequented - including staying at the town's Royal Fountain hotel.

Sheerness Dockyard Church at the entrance to Blue Town is currently undergoing Lottery renovation.

Sheerness town Councillor Dolley White has launched a petition against the development called 'Stop the installation of a cement works within Sheerness historic docks' on Change.org.
