Bomb shelters like this one in the city of Kharkiv have become part of the daily reality for many Ukrainians as Russia's invasion enters its third week.

Three hundred people were living here at the beginning of the war but now (March 9) half have fled to other regions or across the border.

Families cling on here with no showers, privacy or any of the modern facilities they enjoyed just weeks ago.

Residents are forced to rely on handouts of food by volunteers.

The only comfort is knowing that this shelter was built to withstand an atomic bomb which means life, albeit a radically different one, will go on for as long as they can remain below ground.

Nearly 300 people were there at the beginning of the war, half of them are moved to other regions. These people are staying there with kids, without showers, without everything. They do not know what to do next. People feed by volunteers that prepare food for them . Among them are families, grands, kids, and all of them. Part of their flats are destroyed – people literally got homeless.
