Locals organized an event known as 'Bhairo Jhanki' in northern India's Jammu and Kashmir on March 10. The incident took place in Rajouri.

Visuals feature the procession in full swing. A man covered in black paint, disguised as a deity, carries out the festivities. He dances in the middle of the street and strikes locals with a whip-like object. Meanwhile, the men willingly approach the man to get hit and also give him incentives.

The 'Bhairo Jhanki' is a decade-old tradition of Rajouri, where a man disguises himself as Bhairav, a Hindu deity. Following this, a procession is taken out in the town wherein hundreds of people from all faiths participate. Decades ago, after an epidemic hit the town, a saint suggested a procession to put an end to the people's suffering.

The historic 'Bhairo Jhanki' is a week-long event organized before the festival of Holi. Moreover, the security forces deployed tight security measures across the town to ensure that the procession was smoothly conducted.
