Video has emerged of Ukrainian troops fortifying their positions on the frontline north of Kyiv.

Soldiers have dug trenches and set up barricades around Kyiv in anticipation of a Russian assault in footage filmed on Sunday (March 13).

One Ukrainian fighter, Andriy Moroz, said: "I'm from close to Hostomel [northwest of Kyiv]. Since I’ve been here two missiles have struck nearby. I got here by registering through the enlistment office. After four days my brother and nephew were killed due to rockets attacks. Russians, you'll pay for this! We didn't come here for no reason. We’ll teach you how to fight!"

A local villager, Oleksandr, near the frontline, said: ""There is shelling, bombing. Sometimes there are fires. My children are at home. They`re afraid of the shelling. They want to go to school. We stay here. This is our homeland. We keep fighting until the end."
