Cars were set ablaze and dozens were injured in riots in France's Corsica late on Sunday 13 March.

Footage showed a firefighter putting out a car set alight during the night's events, which were triggered by an attack on jailed local nationalist Yvan Colonna.

Clashes between police and protesters left dozens of each injured.

Yvan Colonna is serving a life sentence for the assassination of the island's top official in 1998. But on 2 March he was beaten into a coma by a fellow prisoner.

That prompted an angry reaction from those who still see him as an independence hero.
