Kharkiv firefighters rescue injured woman with cherry picker after residential building is destroyed by airstrike
A team of firefighters in Kharkiv, eastern Ukraine, rescued a woman from a residential building that was partially destroyed by an airstrike.
In exclusive footage filmed on March 15, the firefighters are seen using a cherry picker to reach the damaged apartment. They then help escort a woman in a red coat to safety.
A local resident named Inna was on the phone with her son when the missile hit: "I spoke with my son on the balcony on the phone, I saw smoke, an explosion and realized that a bomb had hit the neighbouring house. It was very scary."
Further exclusive video filmed on March 16 shows the interior of the damaged residential building still burning as firefighters made their way through the ruins.
Andrey, another local, said: "We have nowhere else to go, my mother is disabled. She has no two legs. We have nowhere to go, I can’t leave her. I take care of my mother and I can’t go to war."
Stepan, who was with Andrey at the time, was questioning why the area was targeted: "There are only houses in this area, the school is very far away, there is not even a kindergarten."
A shot from an opposite building shows the extent of the damage as firefighters inspect the caved-in rooftop.
Galyna was giving out supplies when the strike hit: "When it happened I giving out humanitarian aid." She then began to cry.
More than 500 residents of Kharkiv have died since the beginning of the Russian invasion and rescuers have managed to pull 88 people out of the rubble.
