River turns into muddy rapids after heavy rain in Thailand
Footage shows a dog crossing a river that turned into muddy torrents of rapids after heavy rain in Thailand.
The fast-flowing water was gushing through mountain villages in Phatthalung province, southern Thailand on March 14.
Locals have been alerted to be ready for flash floods as continuous heavy rain is expected in the coming days.
Officials also warned villagers living downstream in the lowlands and near the canal as they were near danger zones. A forest ranger’s dog had been swept away by a flash flood in Ton Phrae Thong Waterfall where a search was held.
Ton Phrae waterfall Head of Forest protection unit Somsak Chanwana said: 'We have ordered officials to make sure tourists don't swim in the waterfall until the water level recedes.
'We are ready to alert villagers who live downstream within 24 hours in case there is heavy rain and a flash flood occurs.’
The south and the Gulf of Thailand has prevailed with easterly winds and a low-pressure cell covering the lower South China Sea near the coast of Malaysia causing thunderstorms.
Phatthalung province has also been affected especially in Mueang District, Khuan Khanun District, Rim Tuak Khao Buntad District, Kong Ra District, Sorn Nakarin District, and Si Banphot District with heavy rain since noon causing water to accumulate uphill.
