A truck driver has been ordered to pay one million baht (22,900 GBP) in damages after dragging down five electrical posts and power cables in Thailand.

The female driver Sudawan, 28, reportedly forgot to put down the truck's dump body and drove through the structure in Chonburi province, Thailand on March 14.

Sudawan pulled the cables as she passed through the intersection and knocked down five electrical posts on the way.

However, she failed to hear the posts crashing down behind her continued driving along the road - dragging the cables for more than 50ft.

Sudawan said: 'I wasn’t sure whether I put the trailer back down after delivering steel. I continued driving and suddenly I felt the truck jolted up when the dump hit the electricity lines.'

Aside from the power lines, the truck also damaged some of the cars that were hit by the electrical sparks after the structures collapsed.

Electricians took more than five hours to repair the damage while the local community was also cut off of electricity until the repair was completed.

Wanchalerm Thima, an inspector from the Chonburi Provincial Electricity Authority, said: 'Police charged the truck driver with reckless driving and for causing damage to government and private property. The compensation will be more than a million baht.'
