A Javan porcupine is rescued from a mud pond where used oil dumps behind a motorcycle repair shop in Indonesia.

Footage filmed in Agam district, West Sumatra province Thursday (March 17) shows members of the animal lover community being called to save this endemic Indonesian animal.

A rescuer named Waldi used cloth and sacks to protect himself from the porcupine's spines, then tried to catch the animal by holding its tail, but it always escaped because the porcupine struggled.

The porcupine finally got out of the pond and ran to the warehouse and got stuck there.

Rescue efforts finally succeeded after rescuers tied up the body of a Javan porcupine trapped in a corner of the warehouse.

"After the porcupine calmed down a bit, she was put in a box and then we released it into the forest near the rice fields around the site because she looks like a female hedgehog who has just given birth to her young," Waldi said.
