Tourists are seen at the Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok, Thailand, on March 18 as ministers announce the country would no longer require pre-departure PCR tests to enter.

Health chiefs from the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration ruled on Friday that from April 1 anybody arriving in the country would only require a PCR test when they arrive.

CCSA spokesman Taweesilp Visanuyothin said current travel restrictions under the ‘test and go’ and ‘sandbox’ schemes would continue, with tourists and Thai nationals having to quarantine in a hotel for up to 24 hours until a negative test is returned. They must also perform an antigen test on the fifth day.

Ministers estimate that the Covid-19 virus will be endemic in the country by July, which could lead to restrictions being eased further.
