Tourists in Sri Lanka were forced to run for their lives last month when a wild elephant attacked the tuk-tuk they were travelling in.

The dramatic footage was captured by Sanjaya Madushan Wickramasiri on February 13 who was on a tour of Minneriya National Park with some British tourists.

The clip shows the elephant approaching the tuk-tuk and then starting to shove the flimsy vehicle before tipping it over onto its side.

"Oh my god!" scream Wickramasiri's passengers as they witness the scene.

According to Wickramasiri, the tourists ran away and were unharmed in the ordeal.

He said the elephants regularly gather on the main road in the park hoping for food and some have become trouble-makers.
