Soldiers from Mariupol fighting near Kharkiv write messages for Russian troops on shells.

In footage supplied by the Ukrainian army the battalion from Mariupol, southeastern Ukraine, go about their daily duties.

One soldier said: "We are not just defending ourselves, we will soon go on a counteroffensive, we will avenge the murder of women and children."

The visuals show soldiers writing messages on shells that read "for Kyiv", "for the motherland" and "for Berdyansk".

Another soldier had a message for Russia: "For Kyiv, for Ukraine! We will shoot down your planes and blow up your tanks! it will be a punishment for your behaviour!"

This footage was filmed on March 20.
