A brave man managed to climb a 60ft (18m) greased pole at a traditional fair in central India on 20 March.

The daredevil challenge took place in Rondha village of Betul district.

Visuals showed the man climbing the wooden pole that was smeared in black grease.

The man used two ropes like platforms to climb the slippery pole.

Once he reached the top, the man broke a coconut and dropped a 10 rupee note and a one rupee coin that was perched on top of the pole, before sliding down.

He then touched the feet of young girls to seek their blessings, while several people tipped him money for his valiant display.

The man, identified as Gajju, has been performing the stunt and keeping the tradition alive for the last 28 years.

According to locals, the tradition is over 100 years old. It takes around an hour to climb the greasy pole.

While it is risky, people attempt it to not only carry on the tradition, but also to display their athleticism and valour.

It is part of the Meghnadh Fair and several stalls are set up nearby where small vendors sell their merchandise.
