A photographer managed to capture stunning visuals of the northern lights illuminating the sky above Skutustadhir, Iceland.

Footage from March 20 shows the aurora borealis swirling around in the night sky.

The filmer told Newsflare: "It started shortly after nightfall and lasted hours, slowly but steadily growing and rising, until it grew high and huge with spectacular shapes looking like a giant tumbler.

"It was huge but not extremely bright, however, high-end camera and lens combo make it possible to not only take photos but even real-time video."

It started shortly after nightfall and lasted long hours , slowly but steadily growing and rising, untill it grew high and huge with spectacular shapes looking like a giant tumbler.
It was huge but not extremely bright, however high-end camera and lens combo make it possible to not only take photos but even realtime video. . Shot at 25 fps, with frequent fps override as low as 1/10sec. , despite ISO 40'000 AND F1.0 aperture.
Having clear skies and high altitude helped for better view.
Currently hunting aurora for 2 weeks, this was the first night of hunting for clear skies. Drove 675km to make sure we would have clear skies, as much of western and southern Iceland was under clouds.
