A rampaging wild monkey invaded a school leaving children terrified in Thailand.

Concerned school director Chatchai Korkhun contacted the rescue team after a macaque showed up on campus in Mukdahan province, Thailand on March 19.

The male monkey has been terrorising students and janitors, and climbing up the school's buildings for four days. However, before the volunteers could catch the wild animal, it escaped to a local's house next to the school.

The macaque reportedly ransacked the resident's kitchen to find food. Too terrified to drive away the hostile simian, the panicked homeowner called animal control to catch it.

Upon arrival, the officers attempted to lure the monkey into the cage with food, to no avail. They had to fire a tranquiliser before capturing it and bringing it away from the school.

The primate was brought to a wildlife conservation area in Ubon Ratchathani province and released into the wild.

Chatchai said: ‘The male monkey entered the school and climbed on the kindergarten building. We had to call the local rescue team to ensure the safety of the students and staff.’
