CCTV cameras captured a bungling driver being hit by an oncoming train at a level crossing in Cambodia.

The motorist in the white pickup truck ignored the lowered barriers and the headlights from the cargo locomotive and tried to speed over the tracks in Phnom Penh on February 28.

Realising he would not make it in time, the driver hit the brakes and stopped on the railway line. The train then smashed into the side of the vehicle.

Fortunately, the vehicle was travelling at a low speed and did not cause any serious damage or injure any of the people inside the pickup truck following the accident in the Khan Por Senchey district of the city.

The family of two parents and two children were seen leaving their car while the train driver continued with his journey transporting shipping containers.

Cambodia's Department of Railways warned drivers to follow the safety precautions when they arrived at level crossings and wait for trains to pass.
