One month on from Russia's invasion of Ukraine, thousands gathered in the Bulgarian capital on March 24 to protest against the war.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on people around the world mark the grim milestone by holding public demonstrations.

On the first month of the war in Ukraine thousands of citizens went out to march in the Bulgarian capital against the conflict. They were organized with no political support in the social networks and gathered at the Independence square in front of the Presidency in Sofia with Bulgarian, Ukrainian, EU and NATO flags to support the people of Ukraine in their resistance. Wearing anti-war, anti-Russian and anti-Putin banners they marched trough downtown till the Eagle's bridge – crucial infrastructure point and block it for two hours, lighting phones and keeping minute of silence in the name of the victims.

This was the biggest event in support of Ukrainians in Bulgaria since the conflict began. The event were planned with no speeches as organizers previously declared. They insisted “Bulgaria is held captive to the increasingly strong grip of Russia’s propaganda war against our country”. They also wrote “It is time to say that we are here, that we are in the EU and NATO, that we have already made our civilizational choice and that we stand behind it.“ Protesters demanded an adequate and timely position in support of Ukraine from the government witch can oppose to the “extreme nationalism in Russia“.
